Frequently Asked Questions:

What is AccessibleNet?

AccessibleNet is a revolutionary movement and business opportunity that aims to create/redesign more than 100,000 accessible websites over the next several years. The project also has a goal of creating more entrepreneurs with disabilities and making the web easier to use for people with disabilities. A portion of revenue generated each month will be donated to charities that serve the disability community.

What is Web Accessibility?

Web accessibility refers to the practice of making websites usable by people of all abilities and disabilities. When sites are correctly designed, developed and edited, all users can have equal access to information and functionality. For example, people who are blind use a special piece of software called a screen reader to access the web. If images and other elements on the page are not properly coded, a person who is blind cannot use the site. Thus, it becomes a missed opportunity for revenue. This is only one example with one disability. There are numerous other issues to consider.

Please contact an AccessibleNet Associate today to find out how we can help you.

Why is this important?

This is extremely important because if your site is not designed to be accessible it can directly affect your bottom line. If people cannot interact with your site, they cannot purchase your products and services. That means you lose money.

Can people outside the U.S. Join?

At this time only people in the United States and Canada can join AccessibleNet. Please continue to visit our website as we will be expanding in the future.

What is the AccessibleNet Seal?

All websites that are created and/or redesigned through the AccessibleNet project will receive the AccessibleNet Seal (Pictured Below). It not only notifies visitors that a company is disability friendly but also when clicked provides detailed accessibility information for a site.

Do participating websites need to be inside the U.S.?

No. Websites that wish to be made accessible can be from any country. Our only requirement is that the site be in English as we currently do not have capabilities for languages other than English.

How can web accessibility benefit me?

There are many benefits of having an accessible website. As a business owner with an inaccessible site you could be turning people away from your website on a daily basis. This means lost revenue. Here are more benefits:

Increased Market Share: It is a known fact that many web developers are either inexperienced in accessible web design or just don’t care about users with disabilities. If your site is accessible you can reach a new audience of over 49 Million People.

Social Responsibility: Increasing the accessibility of your Web site and online services to a wide range of people with disabilities and other disadvantaged members of the community will reinforce your organization's image as a socially responsible entity.

Better Serve Older Visitors to your site: The population is aging in many countries and with older age the incidence rate of disabilities increase.

Loyalty: People with disabilities are very loyal to brands and organizations that they feel are looking out for their needs.

Reduce Legal Liability: In many countries around the world discrimination laws require governments, educational institutes, corporations and businesses to provide equal opportunities for people with disabilities. This may include equal access to electronic and information technology in the same way that physical access to facilities is required. The laws vary from country to country and Butler New Media can make sure your site complies with all these laws

Accessible Design doesn’t just help disabled users: Some principles of accessible design such as: having clear and consistent navigation and using easy to understand page layouts benefit those that do not have disabilities.
